Dreams do come true
We are a team of young people searching for sustainable mobility technologies. Through our racing team, we developed an ultra-efficient electric car.
The history
It all began in December 2021, when a group of first-semester students were having a traditional breakfast at the "Los Arbolitos" restaurant, across from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Guadalajara campus. At this breakfast, they discussed creating a student group related to renewable energy, electric cars, and aerospace engineering.
With this in mind, we began designing the team dedicated to this, as several of those present were enthusiastic about these topics, and we realized that, up until now, there was no student group on campus dedicated to this. We sought to combine these topics into a single project, and that this project would also help combat climate change and encourage more people to pursue their dreams and do their part.
During our first year, we developed two prototype solar trackers, received training in solar energy, and began learning about key topics in automotive engineering.
In November 2022, we were invited to a lecture by a professor from Tec Aguascalientes, where he talked about his experience in a competition called Shell Eco-marathon. After this lecture, the team was excited and set a new goal: to build our first electric vehicle and become the first university in Jalisco to participate in this competition.
After this, the team began a preliminary project to gain experience. This consisted of building a car using steel tubes from a table in one of the labs, wheelbarrow tires, scooter engines, and metal parts found in the trash, which we used to build the car's steering. It was during this project that the first team was born and became excited enough to move forward.
This car was called EEVY-00 (ELYOS Electric Vehicle Y) and has been one of the team's greatest prides. With this experience, we designed and built our first competition car, EEVY-01, in four months. In April, we participated in the Shell Eco-marathon for the first time. In this competition, we failed the technical inspection due to failures in the electronic system, but we were the second lightest car in the Americas and the lightest car in all of Mexico, weighing 31 kilograms.
Without a doubt, we returned to Mexico feeling proud of what we had done, but above all, we returned with a new goal: to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon Brazil 2023 and become the best Shell Eco-marathon team in Mexico.
The rest is history.
